Children at Risk with High Blood Pressure

by admin on June 4, 2009

children at Risk with High blood pressure is just as dangerous as adults with high blood pressure. If we as parents are hypertensive then our children are at risk also. Low birth weight babies can become a candidate for high blood pressure when they gain weight fast.

Children, even as newborns-which is rare-can have high blood pressures. Average blood pressure of American parents, teens and also of young children is on the rise due to the obesity rate that is constantly becoming an issue. Did you know that for every 1 to 3 mm Hg (millimeters of mercury) can raise the blood pressure and that in turn puts your child at a 10% higher risk of increased blood pressures? Mercury from where? shots and immunizations to name a couple.

These are a few suggestions for you to consider when checking the health matters of your children according to the American Heart Association (AHA). They are recommending blood pressure check on all of our children even at the age of 3.

They measure our children’s blood pressure on a sliding scale using such things as their gender, their ages and even the height of our children. They do this with a chart that they have evaluated over a period of time of other children. This is unlike the taking of blood pressures of us adults as they have a guideline of 120/80 and then they consider stress, weight, what we are eating and drinking, our inactivity or are we really actively engaged in exercising and etc.

The blood pressure of our children usually increases with their hypertension, and if they do have high blood pressure, then they check for various diseases as well. Pain will increase blood pressure readings and such things as bullying among the children has been a factor with raising blood pressures also.
